G&O Maritime Group to streamline R&D across all brands

G&O Maritime Group (GOMG) has appointed a dedicated Head of R&D, reflecting its strong commitment to structured and coordinated research and development. As the company expands, a focused R&D approach is essential to align technological decisions across its various brands. Customers will benefit in multiple ways.

G&O Maritime Group is dedicated to enhancing efficiency, optimising production processes, and ensuring strategic alignment across all brands. By focusing on IoT integration, data-driven insights, and process optimisation, the company is taking a structured approach to technological decision-making. According to Ole Fihl Mollerup, Head of R&D at GOMG since December 2024, customers will increasingly benefit from predictive maintenance, improved advisory services, and a unified experience across GOMG’s brands:

For instance, we need a structured IoT strategy to enable real-time monitoring of our systems. IoT technology has been widely adopted in ship equipment, and HJ Lubricators has successfully implemented a real-time online solution, demonstrating significant benefits and efficiency.  Leveraging the collective strength of our group and the proven success of HJL’s solution, we are ready to develop a unified platform. This common solution will integrate the best practices and technological advancements from HJL, ensuring enhanced performance and seamless connectivity across GOMG brands. Real-time monitoring is an additional value for our customers, allowing us to provide better advisory services and predictive maintenance”.

By implementing an integrated, company-wide data system, G&O Maritime Group will enhance feedback loops and improve performance optimisation across all product lines. This will help customers make better-informed decisions and reduce operational costs.

A structured approach to innovation

One of GOMG’s key advantages is its close integration of development and production. Unlike mass-market industries, the maritime sector often requires customised solutions, demanding both technical ingenuity and operational efficiency.

“It’s not just about pure technology development but about optimising our processes so we can scale efficiently while making the best use of our resources,” says Ole Fihl Mollerup.

Each brand under G&O Maritime Group has traditionally made its own development decisions. However, with the company’s newly adopted values and the recent integration of Global Boilers Services, a more structured and coordinated approach to technological decision-making is now essential.

“We need a common framework for making technological choices, with internal inputs but perhaps more importantly from external stakeholders. Growth is putting pressure on our production setup, and scalability is crucial – we are getting there,” says Ole Fihl Mollerup.

To achieve this, G&O Maritime Group is implementing clear decision-making procedures and ensuring that all brands align with the company’s overall strategic goals. This includes optimising resource allocation and maintaining short, efficient decision-making processes.
